Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral?
A referral is not required to see a psychologist. You will need a referral from your General Practitioner (GP) or Medical Specialist such as a Psychiatrist or Paediatrician if you wish to access Medicare rebates for psychological services under the Federal Government Better Outcomes Program. If you intend to use your private health insurance to make a claim, a referral is not required, and it is recommended you check with your insurer your eligibility in making a claim beforehand.
How much does it cost?
Individual clinicians set their own fees and reception can inform you what they are. Payment is due on the day of the appointment and the following methods of payment are accepted: Cash, EFTPOS, and VISA/Master Card. This practice also has facilities to help you electronically access your Medicare Rebate at the time of settling your account. Please ensure you have a debit card with you so the refund can be deposited into your bank account. This practice does not bulk-bill under Medicare.
Medicare rebates are available for Clinical and Counselling Psychological services provided under a Mental Health Care Plan. A mental health care plan is completed by your GP and provides access to Medicare rebates for up to 10 individual sessions in a calendar year.
