Marie-Anne Deighton
Counselling Psychologist
Marie-Anne is a Counselling Psychologist with a Master of Psychology (Counselling) degree from Curtin University and is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia.
Marie-Anne has over 20 years’ experience providing support and intervention to people experiencing acute psychosocial crises and/or chronic lifestyle stressors. Since becoming registered as a Psychologist in 2011 she has worked for the Department of Justice in assessment, treatment (group and individual counselling), supervisory and management roles.
Marie-Anne’s experience has given her a strong foundation in using evidence-based practice to support her clients to improve mood management, reduce anxiety and stress, better regulate their emotional states, and address problematic behaviours, in order to lead healthy, meaningful lives.
Marie-Anne uses a variety of approaches that include:
- Interpersonal Psychotherapy
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Existential Therapy
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
- Mindfulness-based therapies
She has a strong interest in applying knowledge and techniques drawn from the mind-body connection research. Marie-Anne works collaboratively with clients to identify the counselling style and methods that best meet their preferences and needs.
Marie-Anne has an interest in helping clients with concerns relating to:
- Depression and other mood issues
- Anxiety and panic
- Post-traumatic stress symptoms
- Grief and loss
- Pain management
- Alcohol and/or drug use, and other addictions
- Coping and adjustment
- Sexuality and gender identity
